Asphalt Milling

How Asphalt Milling Saves Pavement

  • What is Asphalt Milling?

The asphalt milling and resurfacing process uses special equipment to grind or “mill” away the defective surface layer of asphalt pavement (generally to a depth of 2-3 inches). The asphalt debris, or “millings” are removed and most often taken to the asphalt plant for recycling. The area is then swept clean, adhesive oil is applied, and the surface layer asphalt is repaved. This process is not only used for repair, but is also used for complete parking lot resurfacing.

  • Benefits of Asphalt Milling & Resurfacing

    • Very eco friendly with asphalt recycling
    • Creates a brand new pavement surface
    • Cheaper than full depth asphalt replacement
    • Extends the life of commercial asphalt by up to 20 years
    • Corrects grading and drainage issues
    • Appropriate for asphalt that has surface damage over less than half the surface
    • Allows for base layer repairs if necessary
